Darren is the founder and lead editor of UK Prepper Hub. He has been involved in practical preparedness, outdoor education, and emergency planning for over 40 years — starting as a cub and scout, progressing to Scout Association Mountain Form holder, qualified to lead expeditions, climbing, and abseiling in serious mountain terrain. His professional background spans twelve years at management level in local authority leisure, where he developed and implemented Emergency Action Plans across multiple public facilities covering scenarios including flooding, structural failure, gas leaks, bomb threats, power loss, and mass casualty incidents. He holds continuous CPR and First Aid at Work qualifications since 1988, mountain first aid qualification to Dr Ewan Jones standard (the level required for mountain rescue team work), Bronze Medallion life saving, and Pool Lifeguard Bronze Medallion — a specialist qualification encompassing emergency action plans, normal operating procedures, and spinal injury management in water. He is late-diagnosed ADHD and autistic, and preps because it genuinely helps manage anxiety and the need to have a plan. That lived experience shapes everything on this site. UK Prepper Hub is written from a cold, off-grid cottage in Cambridgeshire — no central heating, no gas, no oil. Just a wood burner, a well-stocked pantry, and forty-plus years of knowing what actually works.
